Dhaka Platoons got off to a poor start to the tournament, losing their first match by a massive margin, but with their stalwarts doing well in the subsequent matches, they haven’t looked back. After a terrible start, they made their way amongst the top-four teams and have maintained their position almost right through up until now.
They are currently placed at the third spot with 12 points to their name. They have lost only six matches from a total of nine played and their net run-rate of 0.575 reflects how dominant they were in the matches they won.
The Platoons come into this match on the back of a couple of superb wins after facing an embarrasing defeat from Chattogram Challengers. Their most recent win came against high-flying Khulna Titans, who failed to chase down a 172-run total set by Dhaka Platoons. Batting first, Tamim Iqbal and Anamul Haque got them off to a pretty decent start, but they both departed in the space of an over followed by Mahedi Hasan to leave Platoons in a spot of bother. Dhaka’s solid middle order once again came to their rescue as they ended up putting a competitive total on the board. Asif Ali proved to be the difference between the Platoons scoring 172 and being restricted 160. He played a blinder of an innings, scoring 39 off just 13 deliveries and was the difference between the two teams.
Defending a total of 172 wasn’t going to be straight-forward, especially against high-flying Khulna Tigers. However, their bowlers started the proceedings on a brilliant note as they got rid of both their openers inside the first four overs. Although the likes of Mushfiqur Rahim and Najibullah Zadran fought hard for the Tigers thereafter, the Platoons’ bowlers were too hard to handle for the Tigers. The Platoons eventually ended up winning the match by 12-runs.
The Rangers have survived plenty of controversies in the tournament so far and will be looking to go a little further. We have seen their captain change twice, but they have looked a settled unit right after Shane Watson started to look after the proceedings for them.
After getting off to a disastourous start, Rangpur Rangers came back to the contention with a couple of back to back wins in the tournament. As it stands now, they have won four matches and are well and truly in the race to qualify for the playoffs. They have four matches to go and would need to win at least three to have an outside chance to qualify for the playoffs. However, they have an extremely poor net run-rate and they might well, therefore, be targeting to win all of their remaining fixtures.
Rangpur Rangers are coming off an imposing win over Sylhet Thunder wherein their batsmen as well as the bowlers both did a superb job to get them a colossal win, which helped their net run-rate as well. Batting first, they scored a total of 199 runs that proved too high for the Thunder. Sylhet Thunder got off to a decent start and looked pretty much in the hunt, excellent middle-bowler bowling by the Rangers caught Thunder off-guard.
All in all, the Thunder didn’t have a decent start to the tournament, but they have done a superb job in their last four matches. Every match hereon is virtually a do-or-die game for them and they are expected to come out all guns blazing. Beating them isn’t going to be easy, even for in-form Dhaka Platoons.
